The Cumbria Woodturners Association is a group of like minded people with an interest in pursuing the art or craft of woodturning and the many other facets involved in this work. We have approx. 40+ members and are associated to the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB).
The inaugural meeting was held in 1990 by interested parties brought together by Merryll Saylan who came across from California for a 12 month residency at the gallery and craft workshop in Grizedale Forest.
Can I join?
Yes of course! We welcome visitors and new members of every age and level of experience, from professionals to novices.

Our meetings provide an ideal opportunity to see some of the best turners at first hand and learn both basic and advanced skills. Members also enjoy sharing their skills amongst themselves and will provide professional recommendations if required.
We place a high priority on good fellowship and enjoy a good laugh, as well as a keen interest to learn.
We have a few books that are available to members.
What sort of work is produced?
Members produce a full range of turning from lace bobbins, through to bowls to abstract sculptural items
